Abstract It is known that theatrical techniques are used in theatres to produce specific effects. As a result, some feminist theatres have used cross-gender technique in performing their plays to express their feminist culture and perspective, in other words, the aesthetic of feminist culture. This research will expose the cross-gender technique in feminist theatres as a form of feminist aesthetics and a form of aesthetic of dissent, which has challenged the traditional dramatic structure of play to undermine patriarchal ideology operating in theatres as well as in the whole world in searching for feminist subjectivity. In fact, it is considered as one of feminist aesthetic approaches in feminist theatres. The research tries to shed light on cross-gender technique in feminist theatre as a form of feminist aesthetics from different feminist perspectives: radical and social feminism. It tries to find out how this theatrical technique helps the radical and social feminists to achieve their goals.
